Why it works
The benefits of prenatal massage
Back & hip pain relief
The shifting centre of gravity during pregnancy places significant strain on the lower back, hips and pelvis. Targeted massage addresses these areas safely and effectively.
Reduced swelling
Gentle lymphatic drainage techniques reduce the oedema (swelling) in hands, feet and ankles that is common, particularly in the second and third trimester.
Reduced anxiety & better sleep
Prenatal massage measurably lowers cortisol and raises serotonin, with research linking regular sessions to improved sleep, reduced anxiety and lower rates of postnatal depression.
Sciatic nerve relief
As the uterus grows it can press on the sciatic nerve, causing pain down the leg. Specific positioning and targeted work can bring significant relief.

Common questions
Prenatal Massage: FAQ
Is prenatal massage safe?+
Yes, when performed by a qualified therapist with specific prenatal training. Paul is trained in prenatal massage and adapts all techniques and positioning for safety throughout pregnancy. Always inform your midwife that you are having massage, most actively support it.
Can I have a massage in my first trimester?+
Most therapists advise waiting until after 12 weeks. If you are in your first trimester and wish to proceed, please obtain clearance from your GP or midwife first and inform Paul at the time of booking.
How will I be positioned?+
You will be supported in side-lying positions with pillows, this is the safest and most comfortable position from the second trimester onwards. You will never be asked to lie on your front or flat on your back.
Can I have a massage after birth?+
Postnatal massage is also available, supporting recovery, reducing muscle fatigue from feeding and carrying, and providing much-needed restorative care in the weeks after birth. Ask Paul about postnatal sessions when booking.
